Risk Managment

Managing your capital and making money needs to have rules.

Warren Buffet's number 1 rule is to NEVER lose money or protect capital. His second rule is to make a profit. His third rule is to refer to rule number 1 & 2. I have added a 4th rule with is to draw profit & enjoy a portion of that profit.

As you know I am not a financial advisor so I can't give you financial advice. What I can offer are my risk management rules.

Before I get started I need to explain some terminology and how the EA works. The EA like a business uses capital to trade. Sometimes the capital used is 1% other times & not often, it can be as high as 50%. The average is around 5%. The capital used in trading or open trades is called "Capital Exposure" or CE.

Example

Your Capital is $1000, you start your EA and trades begin to open. Let's say you have 4 open trades & the total capital used in those open trades is $30. Your "CE = $30. Now to work out the percentage of CE to the capital (CE%), you use the following formula below.

Open Trades / Capital x 100 = CE%
30 / 1000 = 0.03
0.03 x 100 = 3%
So your CE % = 3%

My Lot Size Risk Management.

When my Capital Exposure% (CE%) hits 10%, I change my lot size down to 0.01. I only do this if I have equity (spare cash available) to top up my account. If I don't have spare cash to top up my account then when my CE% hits 5% I change my lot size down to 0.01.

4 - 8 open trades usually = 5%

8-10 open trades usually = 10%

If my CE% reaches 20%, I change my time frame to H1 to slow down the EA from opening more trades.

If my CE% reaches 30%, I change my time frame to H4.

If my CE% reaches 50%, I check the support/resistance lines to understand if the price is going to reverse anytime soon. If there is no support/resistance within 100 pips I will let my equity protector kick in. If there are support lines within 30 - 50 pips, I would fund my account and ride out the trend. What goes up must come down and vice versa.

Once your trades have closed in profit you can reset the EA as per your original settings.

How To Change Lot Size Down.

Option 1.

This option resets the max trades. Max trades is set to 20 as a default) removing the EA resets this setting. I.E. If you already have 20 trades open and you change the lot size down with the below method, max trades is set to zero and thus the EA can open another 20 trades.

Login to VPS.
Double click on the EA to open it.
Click "Yes" to remove the EA.
Click Load.
Double Click on your saved template that has the license key.
Change "Lots" to 0.01. Make sure "Use Equity Stop" is set to "True" Make sure "Total Equity Risk" is set to your % (engineer recommends 50%). Don't put the % sign, just enter the number.
Click the Save button twice. Rename the template. Call it "0.01"
Click Save. Call the new preset (your name & 0.01)
Click Ok.
Check bottom right of the chart, make sure "Lot Size has changed and is says "Lot Size: 0.01".

Once your trades have closed you can thren setup your EA according to your capital using the lot size calculator and your risk profile.

Option 2.

This option changes the existing settings and keeps the algorithm as is. Regarding the Max Trades option, this is kept intact. I.E. If you have 18 trade open the EA can only open another 2 trades unless you increase the Max Trades setting. Example increase to 21 and the EA can open 3 more trades equalling 21 open trades.

Login to the VPS.
Right-click on the chart.
Click Expert Advisor
Click Properties or (F7)
Change Lot size down to 0.01 or your desired lot size.
Click Save. Call the new preset (your name & 0.01)
Click Ok.

Once your trades have closed you can thren setup your EA according to your capital using the lot size calculator and your risk profile.

How The Bot Works

Back Testing

UNFORTUNATELY BACKTRESTING IS NOT ACURATE AS IT DOES NOT TAKE IN TO ACCOUNT THAT THE SPREAD CHANGES EVERY SECOND, LEVERAGE CHANGES WHEN YOUR ACCOUNT HITS A SPECIFIC EQUITY. I DON'T RELY ON BACKTESTING I RELY ON REAL TRADING RESULTS. TESAT ON 0.01 ON LIVE CHECK THE DD% THEN INCREASE AS PER YOUR RISK APPETITE AND GOOD MONEY MANAGEMENT PRONCIPALS.

Before Begining the back test. Close MT4 & reopen it. (This refreshes the EA in the Backtest part of MT4)
Good quotes are very important for correct backtesting.
1. Login into VPS.
2. Click the View tab (Top of the screen), then click strategy tester
3. Press the F2 button in your Keyboard
4. Double click at EURUSD symbol and M1 timeframe.
5. Press Download button and OK button in the next window.
6. After downloading press Download button again and press OK buttons twice in two next windows.
7. Close MT4 Then Restart MT4.

Modelling quality in backtesting should be at least 90%.

Once you have done the steps above watch the video below

HYPOTHETICAL OR SIMULATED PERFORMANCE RESULTS HAVE CERTAIN LIMITATIONS. UNLIKE AN ACTUAL PERFORMANCE RECORD, SIMULATED RESULTS DO NOT REPRESENT ACTUAL TRADING. ALSO, SINCE THE TRADES HAVE NOT BEEN EXECUTED, THE RESULTS MAY HAVE UNDER-OR-OVER COMPENSATED FOR THE IMPACT, IF ANY, OF CERTAIN MARKET FACTORS, SUCH AS LACK OF LIQUIDITY. SIMULATED TRADING PROGRAMS IN GENERAL ARE ALSO SUBJECT TO THE FACT THAT THEY ARE DESIGNED WITH THE BENEFIT OF HINDSIGHT. NO REPRESENTATION IS BE. BACKTESTS CAN'T UNDERSTAND VARIABLE SPREAD, CHANGE IN LEVERAGE & DOES NOT TAKE LATENCY INTO ACCOUNT.

How To Close Out Trades Manually

Exposure / Drawdown Explained

How to work out your Exposure.
Take your open trades and divide by your capital then x by 100 to get to a % of open trades to capital invested.
Example
Capital = $1000
Open trades = $15
Exposure = 15 / 1000 x 100
Exposure% = 1.5%
This means that 1.5% of your capital is being used in trading. Or 1.5 % of the $1000 capital is being used in trading. No more than 1% exposure should be used on a slow day during non-volatile trading.
If you have more than 2% exposure, then you have over-leveraged your account and you may run into problems. You also may run the risk of blowing your account, which means you could lose all your capital or a portion of your capital as per your equity protection settings. the Bot takes 2-3 days to kick in, so before adding currencies or increasing the lot size wait for 2-3 days then check your exposure.
